The Chinese Navy has gone one step further in eradicating the last advantages enjoyed by the US Navy, in the form of a new stealth fighter, known as the J-35. It is the type of fighter that the Chinese military once considered a white elephant that seems to have finally secured its role as the country's newest aircraft carrier fighter.

Before the J-35 was born, the mainstay of the Chinese air force was the J-15 fighter. The J-15 is a reverse-engineered Chinese copy of the Russian Sukhoi Su-33, a fourth-generation fighter jet that has been completely surpassed by American aircraft such as the F-22 and F-35.

In fact, Shenyang Aircraft Corporation has existed as a de facto flight platform since 2011, after which it has progressed through three major design iterations and several designs (F-60/J-31/and FC-31) before re-appearing as the J-35 aircraft with redesigned wings and long fuselage optimized for lower radar cross-section (RCS).

The J-35's first public appearance was the J-31 at the 2014 China Airshow. The aircraft is powered by two less powerful Russian-made engines originally developed for the Mikoyan MiG-29. .
